For most of us, we spend the most of our time with friends. The time spent is shared for even the littlest of things and the most important of things.
Though some may constantly get on your nerves, friends are indispensable. They are one of those aspects that makes people’s world go round, they fill up people’s world, colour them to a burst of colours.
People then, commemorate a day, so special, just to honour and signify the prominence of friends. World Friendship Day is widely celebrated in the first Sunday on August each year.
World Friendship Day was originally promoted by the founder of Hallmarks cards, Joyce Hall. It was for people to celebrate their friendship by sending cards.
People would then, gather round and cherish the day with friends by exchanging gifts or just have a plentiful of good time together.
In Singapore, we celebrate it, so people will learn about and appreciate friends of other cultures, races, countries, to cultivate the spirit of friendship among other people. Such instances are not to be taken for granted, for international or interracial bond are based on interest and bond of individual.
Friends can be from the other side of the globe, however this, does not obstruct the celebration, people do express their gratitude and appreciation through online video, international shipping of gifts, and through calls.
Friends, though we spend most of our time with them, it is essential to dedicate a day just for them. Use that day, to recognize your friends and their contribution to your life. Every small things they did, adds up to a prominent different to you.
Friendship day, it makes bonds stronger, enhancing peace and positivity around the globe. Cherish every friend you have made during your life span, for they do fill up more or less a part of your world wherever they are.
